Unbreakable

Emmy is a little more than 5 years old.

Yesterday, she went to the car to get her sunglasses, and accidentally slammed her fingers in the door of the car, tearing off a small piece of flesh. Correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't most kids age 5 stand there with their fingers stuck in the door and scream bloody murder?

Emmy reached over with her other hand, opened the car door, and removed her injured hand. Then she walked into the house, held up her bloody hand for us to see, and calmly asked for an icy bear (ice cube) and a bandaid. Only after we got her hand all cleaned and bandage did she go lie down with her doll and stuffed animal and begin to sob quietly.

Ouch!

It freaks me out that I still can't tell when T is physically in pain. He doesn't complain. And after figuring out the 'let mommy kiss it' thing.. I kiss everything... when he touches soething he wasn't intending to a serious bang on the head. .. with the same expression. I caught him limping and rubbing his leg enough that now he's having an xray. oi. These kids are tough.. but I'm not sure how to gauge that.

I hate this story. I hate that any little girl should have such a high pain threshold. Your children are smart, strong, and fascinating. Thank you again for sharing these little glimpses.

My ET daughters have a high pain tolerance, too. My older girl (at age 19 months) broke her arm climbing out of her crib last summer. The only way I knew she was seriously hurt was that she screamed in pain for 10 minutes. Currently, she has a scab on her face from a fall this morning and a bruise on the bridge of her nose from getting hit face-first by a swing earlier this week.

Oh, I'm right there with you Katy. I feel like I'm always having to offer an explaination to Doctors about the high tolerance for pain my little kids have. Poor Emmy!
